CLAYMONT, Del. – Led by senior
Marina Sales (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team ended its regular season with its second win in the last three matches, a 9-0 non-conference victory over Molloy College at Archmere Academy on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Lightning finished the regular season with a 9-6 record.
The lone senior on the 2011-12 team, Sales teamed up with freshman
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) at number one doubles to earn an 8-2 victory. In addition, junior
Vanessa Leon (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa – PB, Brazil) posted an 8-1 decision at number two doubles.
Freshman
Stephanie Puentes (Bogota, Columbia) earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number one singles while junior
Blancha Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain) had a 6-2, 6-0 verdict at number two singles.
Junior
Melanie Bonomo (Maracay, Venezuela) posted a win at number three singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-0 while freshman
Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) had a 6-0, 6-2 win at the number four position.
The Lightning also earned default wins at number three doubles along with number five and number six singles.
Goldey-Beacom, which is currently ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II East rankings, will await the selections to the NCAA Regionals. The top seven teams in the final rankings will reach the tournament.
