Boxscore

Freshman guard Marcus Porter scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while senior forward Tariq Uqdah pitched in with 15 points (6-8 FG) and six rebounds in leading Goldey-Beacom College to its third straight triumph, 84-74 over Caldwell College Saturday at the Newman Center. Sophomore point guard A.J. Picard contributed 14 points and three assists to the cause, while freshman forward Trey Clinton added nine points off the bench as the Lightning (14-9, 11-3 CACC) scored the first nine points and never trailed on the afternoon. A 33-29 lead at the half was sliced to a single point (39-38) after a lay-up by senior forward Arthur Morrison (game-high and career-best 24 points, eight rebounds) just over three minutes into the second half. However, an 11-2 spurt, capped by a Porter basket at the 15-minute mark, stretched the lead to 50-40. The Cougars (12-11, 7-9 CACC) hung tough, drawing within 62-58 on another Morrison lay-up with 7:12 to play before Porter stepped up once again, nailing a jumper to spark a 9-3 surge that pushed the lead to double figures once more, 71-61 with 4:37 remaining. Caldwell would come no closer than seven down the stretch despite winning the rebound battle, 37-30. Goldey-Beacom shot a robust 56% from the field (the Cougars were a solid 46%) and boasted a spectacular 18/7 assist-turnover ratio, helping fuel an 18-7 advantage in mistake points. The Lightning - which remains tied with Philadelphia University for first place in the CACC South - hosts Chestnut Hill in a huge divisional battle on Wednesday at the Joseph West Jones Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00.
