Eagles Secure Berth in CACC Tournament With Five-Set Victory

WILMINGTON, Del. – Led by senior outside hitter Kelly Hayes (Roselle Catholic H.S./South Orange, N.J.), Post University (10-16, 9-9) secured a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament by rallying to earn a five-set victory over Goldey-Beacom College (4-22, 0-18) at the Lightning's Joseph West Jones College Center on Friday evening.

The Eagles, who were playing their third match in as many nights, posted the victory by set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-6. It was Post's third win in the last five matches.

Hayes led the Eagles to the victory by posting a “double double” with a team-high 16 kills, including four kills in the fifth set, with a match-high 28 digs while graduate student outside hitter Kelli Reynolds (Jonathan Law H.S./Stamford, Conn.) added 15 kills, including three kills in the fifth set, with five blocks.

Sophomore setter Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) also contributed a “double double” by matching her season high with 51 assists while adding 10 digs along with six service aces and four blocks. In addition, junior outside hitter Emily Wilman (Union Catholic H.S./Perth Amboy, N.J.) had a “double double” with 10 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in a losing effort with her eighth “double double” of the season, tallying a match-high 19 kills with 15 digs. Meanwhile, senior setter/opposite Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) nearly recorded a “triple double” with 16 digs, 13 assists and eight kills.

Freshman setter Jamika Townsend (King's Fork H.S./Suffolk, Va.) added a “double double” in the loss, recording 26 assists with 10 digs and six kills. She also contributed a season-high five blocks as the Lightning tallied a season-high 14.0 team blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Moyer (Blue Mountain H.S./Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) posted a season-high eight blocks along with nine kills for the Lightning while senior middle hitter Catherine Howard (William Penn H.S./New Castle, Del.) posted six blocks with four kills.

Freshman defensive specialist Mackenzie Wilson (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) led the Lightning's defensive effort with a season-high 25 digs.

The Lightning, who have lost 19 consecutive matches, will finish the 2012 season on Saturday morning by facing Concordia College in a 10 a.m. match that will be played at Purchase College.
