McCoy Leads Lightning with 4th "Double Double" of Season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Led by freshman middle hitter Caitlyn Crawford (Covington H.S./Covington, Ohio), the University of the Sciences (9-9, 4-4) snapped a two-match losing streak by earning a three-set Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (4-12, 0-8) at the Devils' Bobby Morgan Arena on Friday evening.

The Devils, who earned their second win over the Lightning this season, secured the victory by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 28-26.

Crawford tallied a match-high 12 kills and contributed three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal H.S./Vestal, N.Y.) added 10 kills with a .391 hitting percentage and five digs. Meanwhile, sophomore setter Kaileen Bevenour (Washington Township H.S./Sicklerville, N.J.) added 32 assists.

Senior libero Stacey Wooden (Pennsbury H.S./Levittown, Pa.) posted a match-high 18 digs while junior middle hitter Diana Solomon (East Islip H.S./East Islip, N.Y.) tallied 13 digs.  

Sophomore outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in a losing effort by posting her Xth “double double” with a match-high 12 kills and 11 digs while senior setter/opposite Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) added 12 assists and 14 digs for her team-leading seventh “double double” of the season. Dempsey also contributed six kills and two service aces.

Freshman setter Jamika Townsend (King's Fork H.S./Suffolk, Va.) nearly recorded a “double double” by tallying 16 assists with nine digs.

The Lightning will wrap up their quick two-match road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when they travel to Wilmington University for a 7 p.m. match against the Wildcats.
