BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Senior outside hitter
Da'Cheray Thomas (Science Park H.S./Newark, N.J.) tallied 19 kills and added 12 digs to lead Bloomfield College (4-15, 3-14) earned its second win in the last three matches, a five-set Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (4-20, 0-16) at the Deacons' Bloomfield Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
After winning the first set by a 25-23 margin, the Deacons dropped the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-14, respectively. However, the Deacons answered with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set before claiming the match with a 15-13 triumph in the fifth set.
Thomas recorded her second “double double” of the season and set a season high with her 19-kill performance while sophomore middle hitter
Deandra Black (East Brunswick H.S./East Brunswick, N.J.) added 14 kills. Meanwhile, sophomore setter
Karol Oliveros (Science Park H.S./Newark, N.J.) contributed a “double double” with 23 assists and a team-high 13 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in a losing effort with a career-high 24 kills with a .397 hitting percentage. McCoy, who ranks second in the CACC by averaging 3.37 kills per set, also posted eight digs for Goldey-Beacom, which hit .183 as a team.
Meanwhile, senior setter/opposite
Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) added her 10th “double double” of the season by posting a match-high 27 assists with 14 digs. She also added five kills in the loss.
In addition, freshman defensive specialist
Mackenzie Wilson (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) contributed a season-high 22 digs while senior middle hitter
Catherine Howard (William Penn H.S./New Castle, Del.) had seven kills with six solo blocks.
The Lightning, who lost their 17th match in a row, will return to the Joseph West Jones College Center on Tuesday night to host Lincoln University in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
