Live Stats: Wilmington at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del.
– Looking to earn its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory of the season, the Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team will return to the Joseph West Jones College Center on Tuesday night to host Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at 7 p.m.

It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season after Wilmington earned a three-set victory over the Lightning on Oct. 9. In addition, live stats for Tuesday's match will be available on GBCAthletics.com.

Now 4-18 overall and 0-14 in the CACC, the Lightning will be trying to end a 15-match losing streak when they host the Wildcats on Tuesday night. They will be playing their fourth match in a seven-day span after dropping a pair of CACC matches at Georgian Court and Dominican during the weekend.

Sophomore outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) has been the Lightning's leading hitter during the season. The CACC leader in kills per set with a 3.32 average, McCoy also ranks third in the CACC with 259 kills in 22 matches. She has also tallied six “double double” efforts this year, including 12 kills and 10 digs in Friday night's loss against the Lions.

Meanwhile, senior setter/opposite Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) has also been one of the top players for Goldey-Beacom this season, leading the team with 345 assists and 41 service aces. She also ranks second on the team with 208 digs and a 2.74 dig per set average. She also ranks fourth in the CACC with a 0.54 service ace per set average and has posted nine “double double” matches this season.

With a 23-4 overall record, the Wildcats will enter Tuesday's match against the Lightning with a 13-match win streak after rallying for a five-set win at Caldwell on Saturday afternoon. Wilmington, which is a perfect 15-0 in league play this year, is also one of two teams in the CACC with a perfect conference record and leads the South Division by a 4.5-game margin over Philadelphia University.

Senior outside hitter Nicole Wiechecki (Ursuline Academy/Wilmington, Del.) led the Wildcats to the win over Caldwell on Saturday afternoon, recording 13 kills with 22 digs. Meanwhile, junior middle hitter Katie Shorter (Broadneck H.S./Pasadena, Md.) added 15 kills with nine blocks while hitting .519 in the victory.

Led by Wiechecki and Shorter, the Wildcats hit .251 in the win over the Cougars on Saturday and had 14.0 total blocks.

A strong candidate for first team All-CACC honors, Wiechecki ranks second in the CACC with 269 kills while her 2.80 kill per set average ranks fourth in the CACC. In addition, she is averaging 0.59 service aces per set, which is good for third in the conference.

Meanwhile, freshman outside hitter Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Old Mill H.S./Glen Burnie, Md.) ranks fifth in the CACC with 246 kills while junior middle hitter Brittany Biddle (Concord H.S./Claymont, Del.) is fourth in the CACC with a .283 hitting percentage.

Shorter, who has tallied 194 kills in 27 matches this season, leads the CACC with 136 blocks and a 1.42 block per set average.

The Lightning will be looking to avenge a three-set loss against the Wildcats on Oct. 9 at the WU Athletics Complex. Shorter led the Wildcats with 10 kills and 6 blocks in the victory while Wiechecki had 12 digs in addition to 9 digs. Senior middle hitter Catherine Howard (William Penn H.S./New Castle, Del.) had nine kills with a .600 hitting percentage in a losing effort for the Lightning.

After Tuesday's match against the Wildcats, the Lightning will travel to Bloomfield College on Friday, Oct. 26 for a 7 p.m. match against the Deacons.
