WATERBURY, Conn. – Led by two wins from senior
Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain), the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team set a school record by posting its seventh shutout victory of the season after earning a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Post University (0-9, 0-7) at the Chase Collegiate School on Friday afternoon.
The Lightning, who earned their fifth win in the last six matches, reached the 10-win mark for the fourth time in school history. Now 10-2 overall on the season, the Lightning finished their CACC slate with a 7-1 mark and the number two seed in next weekend's CACC Championship at Chestnut Hill.
After teaming with sophomore
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) to earn an 8-0 win at number one doubles, Sancho posted an 8-0 victory at number one singles over junior
Pamela Ifill (Wilby H.S./Waterbury, Conn.).
Meanwhile, sophomore
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) also recorded a pair of victories against the Eagles. She earned a straight-set victory over freshman
Daysy Chin (Danbury H.S./Danbury, Conn.) after an 8-0 triumph with sophomore
Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) at number two doubles.
Melnikova also earned a straight-set victory at number four singles over senior
Maxcine Swaby (Base H.S./Brooklyn, N.Y.) by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

Vanessa Leon (Caracas, Venezuela) defeated junior
Leah Grabowski (Naugatuck H.S./Terryville, Conn.) at number three singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score after pairing with junior
Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) to earn an 8-0 win at number three doubles.
Junior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) and senior
Melanie Bonomo (Maracay, Venezuela) also posted wins at number five and number six singles, respectively. For Bonomo, it was the 42nd singles victory of her career, tying the school record set by
Luciana Pereira. Pereira had a 42-8 singles record during her three-year career from 2008-11.
The Lightning will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to West Chester University for a non-conference match against the Rams. Meanwhile, the Eagles will face Caldwell on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
