PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Lightning women's cross country team placed fifth of 10 teams as it hosted the 10th annual Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic on a beautiful Fall evening at Carousel Park on Friday, Oct. 7.

USciences repeated as the team champion with an overall score of 45. GBC finished with a score of 133 behind fourth place Bloomfield (107), third-place Holy Family (87) and second-place Ocean County (63).

Junior Elizabeth Williams shattered her own Carousel Park course school record she set as a freshman in 2009 by 34 seconds as she finished 8th overall with a time of 22:19. This marked her second top-10 finish in the three years she has run this race.

Sophomore Symone Stewart was next for the Lightning at 25:04 to take 25th place overall. Close behind was junior Alyssa Murray, who crushed her 2010 time by 2:01 to cross at 25:50 and finish 34th. Also obliterating her time from last year was sophomore Cary Mitchell, who improved by 2:30 to finish in 26:29, 36th overall.

Also finishing under 30 minutes were sophomore Tigan Frisby (29:28) and Shanay Snead (29:52).

Next week, the Lightning will compete in the University of Delaware Cross Country Meet at White Clay Creek State Park.
