Lightning Tennis Surges Past Georgian Court, 9-0

GBC Earns 4th Shutout Victory of the Season

PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 9-0 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Georgian Court University on Sat. afternoon at Del Castle Tennis Center.

The Lightning swept all six singles matches and all three doubles matches for their fourth shutout win of the season.

Freshman Stephanie Puentes, the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, improved to 7-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Georgian Court's Maria Leal. Junior Blanca Sancho, freshman Filipa Coreia, senior Marina Sales, junior Melanie Bonomo and freshman Anastasia Melnikova all won their respective singles matches, and all three doubles teams were victorious as well.

Next up for the Lightning is the highly anticipated match-up with the 12-2 (6-1 CACC) Griffins of Chestnut Hill College. The Griffins and Lightning were two of three teams that were tied for second place in the CACC coaches' pre-season poll voting, and both enter Mon. afternoon's match with just one loss in league play.
