SALISBURY, Md. - The Goldey-Beacom College women's cross country team finished 13th of 16 teams with a team score of 410 at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University on Sat., Oct. 1.
The Lightning edged Anne Arundel Community College by one point thanks to an outstanding individual effort on the part of every girl on the team.
Junior
Elizabeth Williams shattered Kate Lewis' school-record time in the 6K by 59 seconds after Lewis' time had help up since 2004. She finished with a time of 24:45, which was 1:29 faster than her time at this invitational last year.
Next in was junior
Alyssa Murray who finished at 28:13 to best her time from last year by 1:40 and place 9th on the school's all-time 6K list. Sophomore
Symone Stewart was close behind at 29:51, as she ran, according to head coach
Brian Conley, the "best meet of her season so far."
Sophomore
Carly Mitchell was fourth for GBC in just her second race back from a hip rotator injury. She finished in 31:52, 1:01 better than her time at this course last year.
Tigan Frisby and
Shanay Snead both finished the race at 35:52, which proved pivotal in the team standings as the Lightning were able to finish one point ahead of Anne Arundel.
The Lightning host the GBC Fall Classic on Fri., Oct. 7 at Carousel Park. The race begins at 5 p.m.
