PIKE CREEK, Del. – Mariano Olcese scored off an assist from Kwame Appiah with a little over five minutes left in regulation, but the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team fell by a 6-1 verdict at Bloomfield College on Sat. afternoon.
The Lightning (0-6) were down just 1-0 at the half to the No. 6 ranked team in the East Region, but the Deacons pushed ahead with five second-half goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ignacio Farias made four saves in the first half (five for the game) to help GBC stay within a one-goal deficit despite Bloomfield owning a 17-1 shot differential. BC's David Reid scored the only goal of the half off an assist from Juan Ramirez in the 17th minute.
The game's final 45 minutes of action saw the Bloomfield offense come alive, registering five goals and dominating possession against a Goldey-Beacom squad that had no answer for the offensive onslaught.
Terry Gibbs put the Deacons up 2-0 with a goal off a Triston Sommerville cross in the 47th minute, and Ramirez converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to put BC up 3-0.
Claude Allen added his first career goal in the 75th minute and Luis Perez fired a perfect strike to the upper 90 for his first goal of the season in the 80th minute. Allen put the Deacons up 6-0 just four minutes later with his second goal of the day, and a late Goldey-Beacom goal by Olcese concluded the scoring for the day.
