Lightning Falter in Spring Season Opener Versus Seasoned East Stroudsburg Team

Junior Luciana Pereira picked up the Lightning's lone win on the day at No. 5 singles.
WILMINGTON, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team, ranked No. 7 in the East Region, was upended in the Spring 2010 season opener against an already seasoned East Stroudsburg University team, 8-1 on Sun. afternoon at McKean High School.

Playing in its first match in five months, head coach Joe Kissel's squad struggled against a veteran Warrior team that had already played seven matches to date. The Lightning (13-3 overall, 0-1 Spring) lost all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches.

Junior Luciana Pereira picked up the lone Lightning win on the day at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Marissa Tanner.

GBC will await the next edition of the ITA Regional Rankings on Tues., Mar. 30. The last poll, which came on out on Mar. 2, had the Lightning ranked No. 7, just one spot ahead of Holy Family University. GBC defeated HFU twice during the Fall season; however, HFU defeated East Stroudsburg 6-3 yesterday, Mar. 27.

The Lightning will try to bounce back on Apr. 10 when they take on the No. 1 team in the region and 30th ranked team nationally, Queens College.
