PHILADELPHIA - On a cold, windy day in Philadelphia, the Goldey-Beacom College women's cross country team shined at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships at Belmont Plateau.
The Lightning, aggressively seeking improvement on last season's 11th-place finish, were led by sophomore Elizabeth Williams (43rd place) and freshman Symone Stewart (63rd place) as they finished 10th with a team score of 300.
GBC edged out No. 11 Caldwell (303) but were 41 points behind No. 9 Chestnut Hill (259). Philadelphia U. took first with a team score of 37, followed by Dominican (88), Wilmington (89), Georgian Court (110) and USciences (112) to round out the top-five.
Nyack (125), Holy Family (199), Felician (226), Chestnut Hill (259) and GBC (300) rounded out the top-10, followed by Caldwell (303), Bloomfield (346) and Concordia (353).
Williams earned her fastest time on the Belmont 5K course with a 23:21, improving 11 spots from last year's finish at the CACC meet.
Stewart was in second for the Lightning and 63rd overall with a time of 25:40, followed closely by the Lightning's third runner, sophomore Alyssa Murray, at 26:08 (66th).
Senior Brittney Murray was next for GBC at 26:51 as she finished 71st, and freshman Tigan Frisby (74th) came in at 27:10. Freshman Carly Mitchell was the sixth runner in for the Lightning and placed 84th overall with a time of 29:55.
