WILMINGTON, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team's school-record eight-match win-streak came to a halt Wed. afternoon as the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Concordia College Clippers defeated the Lightning, 9-0 at McKean HS.

Concordia, the last CACC team to beat GBC in the regular season back on Oct. 1, 2009, also ended the Lightning's 11-match regular season conference win-streak. Since the Fall 2009 season, GBC is 13-2 in conference play and both losses have come to Concordia.

With today's loss, the Lightning fell to 8-1 (6-1 CACC) on the season while Concordia improved to 6-0 (5-0 CACC).

“Concordia was just too tough and experienced for our kids today,” head coach Joe Kissel said of the undefeated Clippers, who boast five upperclassmen on their roster of eight.

For just the first time this season, the Lightning were not able to come away with any of the three doubles points. Sophomore Vanessa Leon and freshman Laura Cure suffered their first defeat of the season at third doubles to Ana Mendes and Adeline Brennan. The Lightning's first and second pairings of junior Marina Sales and freshman Marie-Louise Klein and sophomore Blanca Sancho and freshman Gabriela Chaves both lost as well.

Sophomore Melanie Bonomo (8-1), Cure (7-1) and freshman Gabriela Chaves (3-1) all suffered their first singles defeats of the season at the fourth, fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Sancho, Klein and Sales each fell at first, second and third singles, respectively.

The Lightning have a week to get ready for their next match as they try to bounce back with a visit to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's West Chester University on Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
