PHILADELPHIA – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team's incredible Fall season came to an abrupt end with a 5-0 loss to Concordia College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Finals on Sat. afternoon.

The Lightning, who have reached the CACC finals the last two seasons only to come away with losses to the Clippers, finished the Fall season with a mark of 11-2. Concordia earns the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which will take place in May.

The Clippers got off to a 3-0 lead by taking all three doubles matches. First off the court was the No. 2 doubles pair of Maria Ortiz and Juliana Frey, who earned an 8-3 win over sophomore Blanca Sancho and freshman Gabriela Chaves.

The Lightning's top doubles team of junior Marina Sales and freshman Marie-Louise Klein fought hard and only trailed 5-3 at one point, but eventually Concordia's Ola Roberts andYuliya Plevako finished them off for an 8-3 win.

The Clippers' No. 3 team of Ana S.O. Mendes and Adeline Brennan followed with an 8-5 win. The Lightning's No. 3 doubles team, freshman Laura Cure and sophomore Vanessa Leon, who had just one loss on the season entering this match, played a really tough match, but ultimately fell and gave the Clippers a 3-0 edge heading into singles play.

Roberts and Plevako were able to finish their opponents at No. 1 and 2, respectively, thus ending the match with a 5-0 score. Roberts, the 2010 CACC player of the year, won No. 1 singles over Sancho, 6-1, 6-1 while Plevako upended Kline, 6-1, 6-0. Concordia's Adeline Brennan was named the CACC Tournament most valuable player.

This concludes the Fall season for GBC. The Lightning will begin play again on Mar. 26 when they host Shippensburg University. Also on the schedule as of now is East Stroudsburg University (Home, 3/27) and Queens College (Home, 4/2).
