SALISBURY, Md. – Despite tying for 14th place out of 18 teams, the Goldey-Beacom College women's cross country team had the second-fastest team 6K performance in school history on Sat. afternoon at the Don Cathcart Invitational, hosted by Salisbury University.
The Lightning finished with a team score of 410 to tie with Hood College for 14th place.
“You look at the team finish and think we had a bad day, but we had an absolute fantastic day,” head coach Brian Conley said. “Everybody ran great.”
East Stroudsburg University took first place with a team score of 52 followed Mansfield (76) and the host Salisbury (127). Christopher Newport University (137) and Shenandoah University (149) rounded out the top-five.
Local Delaware State on Division I placed 7th with a score of 203, and CACC rival Wilmington University placed 8th with a score of 219.
Sophomore Liz Williams and freshman Symone Stewart paced the Lightning again, and this week, the pack of sisters Alyssa and Brittney Murray and freshmen Carly Mitchell and Tigan Frisby followed close behind.
Williams filled yet another slot on the school's all-time 6K performance list with a time of 26:14. She was at the 5K mark at an astounding 21:46. Stewart followed at 29:05, good for 13th place on the all-time list.
Sophomore Alyssa Murray came in less than a minute later with a time of 29:53. That time ranks her 15th on the school's all-time list. Her sister Brittney, the lone senior on the roster finished at 30:41.
Mitchell and Frisby were the final two Goldey-Beacom finishers at 32:53 and 33:36, respectively.
Next, the Lightning will host the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic at Carousel Park on Sat. at 10:30 a.m.
