WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team improved to 9-1 on the season with an impressive, 5-1 win on the road over West Chetser on Wed. afternoon at Campus Tennis Courts.
All three Lightning doubles teams earned victories and freshman Laura Cure and senior Luciana Pereira notched singles wins at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively, before the remaining three singles matches were stopped due to darkness. The Lightning's No. 1 doubles pair of junior Marina Sales and Marie-Louise Klein posted an 8-3 win over the Golden Rams' Brittany Counts and former GBC player Luisiana Souto. Sophomore Blanca Sancho and freshman Gabriela Chaves WCU's defeated Allie Fetter and Alex Santoro at the second flight, and sophomore Vanessa Leon and freshman Laura Cure bounced back from their only loss of the season against Concordia last week with a dominant, 8-0 performance.
Sophomore Melanie Bonomo suffered just her second loss of the season in a very competitive, 6-4, 6-4 fourth flight singles match against Claire Afrassiabian. GBC was able to secure the five points needed for the match victory when Cure defeated Santoro, 6-4, 6-2, and Pereira bested Grasso, 6-0, 6-3.
GBC is now 3-0 in non-league play with wins over Molloy, Dowling and now West Chester. The Lightning are scheduled to take on Division I Delaware State tomorrow afternoon. The match has twice been re-scheduled due to rain, and there is rain in the forecast again tomorrow.
