WILMINGTON, Del. – Goldey-Beacom men's soccer team had no answer for Joe Wright, as he scored a hat trick to lead visiting Dominican past GBC, 4-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play Sat. afternoon.

With the loss, the Lightning fell to 3-3, (1-1 CACC) and the Chargers, ranked  No. 17 nationally in the NSCAA poll and No. 2 in the East Region, improved to 6-0-2 (2-0-1 CACC).

Dominican outshot GBC 21-8 and took five corners to the Lightning's five. The Chargers were called for 17 offside penalties on the afternoon compared to just one by GBC; however, the fouls were also one-sided with GBC called for 21 and Dominican 10.

Sophomore midfielder Rob Cann led the Lightning with three shots and also assisted on GBC's lone goal of the afternoon, scored by senior Angel Rodriguez. Rodriguez's goal was his team-leading seventh of the season.

Wright got Domincan on the board early, scoring on a penalty kick after he was tackled inside the box not four minutes into the game.

GBC would settle into the game however, and about halfway into the half, Rodriguez scored the equalizer off a Cann pass. Neither team would score for the remainder of the half as the conference rivals went into the intermission tied, 1-1.

After taking just six shots in the first half, Dominican would take 15 in the second half to just three by GBC, and thus outscored the Lightning 3-1 in the second half.

The Lightning clung to the 1-1 tie for nearly 20 minutes before Dominican goalie Brandon Heembrock's punt found Wright, who took the ball into the Lightning zone and fired a shot past GBC goalkeeper Ignacio Farias to put the Chargers ahead, 2-1.

Not 30 seconds later, Wright scored again off an assist from Alex Rodier. Then with under five minutes left to play, Pedro De Araujo scored on a penalty kick to give the game its final score, 4-1.

GBC is back in action on Tues. at 4:30 p.m. as they visit CACC foe Philadelphia University.
