Waterbury, CT – Lightning streak ends at six as team falls to Post
In a matchup of CACC teams battling for playoff seeding, the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team traveled to Post University on Saturday trying to extend their six-game winning streak. The Lightning grabbed the early 6-2 lead, but Post quickly answered back with 10 unanswered points to go up 12-6. The Lightning charged back to take a 17-12 lead, only to see the Eagles find their way back on top at intermission 40-36.
With the second half under way, the Eagles held control of the lead, until sophomore Sam McDuffie (13 points, 7 rebounds, four assists, and 5 steals) scored all eight points on 8-1 Lightning run. However, the Eagles answered and controlled the remainder of the game, and prevailed 77-71. With the loss, the Lighting drop to 7-8 (CACC) and 12-14 (overall), but remain in a tie with Holy Family University for the second seed in the CACC South.
Junior Troy Esquilin recorded his second double-double of the season, with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while classmate Kyle White provided 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Lightning will host Chestnut Hill College to finish their regular season out this Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 8:00pm.
