WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team went on the road to take on non-league opponent West Chester University Tues. night and lost in straight sets, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-7.
Freshman Monica Dempsey led the Lightning with seven kills, eight assists and seven digs, and redshirt freshman Renee DeLeo stepped up with a season-high six kills and a team best .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Roni Shaner had eight assists and a team-high eight digs and junior Charlotte Minshall pitched in with four kills.
As a team though, the Lightning had just 23 kills to the Golden Rams' 43. WCU also had a .391 hitting percentage to GBC's .135 percent.
The Lightning had no answer for Lexi Kegerise, who had a game-high 11 kills. Michelle Powers also had nine kills for the Golden Rams, on a .400 hitting percentage for the night. Helen Fitzpatrick directed traffic for WCU with 31 assists, and Nora Jingeleski dominated with her service, recording five service aces.
The Lightning (9-21) wrap up the season tonight with a home contest against Millersville. The Marauders defeated GBC 3-0 back on Sept. 10. Three seniors will be honored before the game: Chalea Johnson, Emily McMichael and Kellyn Nolan.
