PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team will host a “Dig Pink” fundraiser during its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game versus Chestnut Hill College tonight at 7 p.m in the Joseph West Jones Center.
“Dig Pink” is a breast cancer awareness rally sponsored by the Sideout Foundation that is being held by volleyball programs throughout the country all during the month of October to raise awareness and generate funds. The proceeds go towards doing something significant and identifiable in the fight against breast cancer.
Goldey-Beacom College senior women's administrator Amy Thomas, who, along with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Kellyn Nolan, has helped organize this event, said GBC is adding a special feature to its Dig Pink event and is calling on the community for help.
“We would like as much community support as possible to be at the game on the 15th,” Thomas said. “Also if you know of anyone who is currently fighting cancer or who has survived cancer, we would like to recognize them at the game. Please e-mail me the name of the person that is coming, and we will announce their name.”
Also, in support of this cause, the Lightning men's and women's soccer, cross country and golf teams, in addition to the volleyball team, have been wearing pink during their games this week.
The public can purchase t-shirts (shown above) for $8 inside the training room of the Joseph West Jones Center on the Goldey-Beacom campus, and the proceeds will go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.
