BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Matt Bik scored just before the 80th minute of play to bring the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team within a goal, but the Lightning could not get the equalizer as they dropped their regular season finale, 2-1 on the road at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Concordia.
The Lightning end the regular season 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the CACC and will face the regular season conference champion and intra-city rival, Wilmington University in the first round of the conference tournament. Concordia, in its first season as a member of the CACC, went 3-15 overall and 3-8 in league play.
GBC was outshot 21-4 on the day. Bik and junior Rob Cann both took two shots apiece for the Lightning, who could not manage much offense against the Clippers. Bik's goal was his second of the season, and he was assisted by freshman Ricky Jackson.
Junior Andrew Cairns started in goal for GBC and made two saves while allowing one goal in 45 minutes of work. Freshman Ignacio Farias came in for the second half and stopped three shots while also allowing one goal. Concordia's Giovanni Olarte allowed one goal and made no saves but picked up the win.
GBC was without its senior star Angel Rodriguez for the third straight game. His status for the CACC Tournament is still in question.
The Lightning are back in action as the No. 8 seed in the CACC Tournament. This is their first appearance in the tournament since 2003 when they won the championship. They play the No. 1 seed Wilmington University at 2 p.m. Monday at Kirkwood Soccer Complex.
