PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom men's soccer team managed just three shots on goal as the host Lightning fell to Nyack, 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play Sat. afternoon at Churchman Field.
The loss drops GBC to 4-6 on the season, 2-3 in conference play, while the Warriors improved to 3-7-1, 2-3-1.
Freshman Ignacio Farias played the full 90 minutes in goal for GBC, making eight saves and allowing two goals. Nyack's Adrian Ibanez needed just three saves to shut out the Lightning.
Senior Angel Rodriguez led the Lightning with five shots, putting two on net. Sophomore Rob Cann also pitched in with three shots and put one on net.
The Warriors outshot GBC 21-13 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. The two teams combined for 30 fouls on the day in what was a physical contest.
Bright Manu opened the scoring for the day with an unassisted shot from 25 yards out to give Nyack a 1-0 lead almost 15 minutes into the action. The Warriors took that 1-0 lead into the half.
A little over 10 minutes into the half, Ryan Campo added an insurance goal for Nyack when his shot from eight yards out beat Farias for the goal.
GBC is back in action on Tues. afternoon, as the Lightning pay a visit to intra-city rival Wilmington University. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
