PIKE CREEK, Del. – Junior Erlin Rodezno scored the game's only goal in the 50th minute of play as the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team hung on to defeat Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Bloomfield College, 1-0 on Senior Day at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

Junior Andrew Cairns and freshman Ignacio Farias split time in net and together preserved the team's third shutout victory of the season. Cairns got the start and made two saves in 45 minutes of work. Farias came on and made three stops, all late in the game as the Deacons applied pressure to try to get the equalizer.

Farias made two clutch diving saves and senior defender Justin Enloe-Hamill headed away two near Deacon goal opportunities late in the game to help the Lightning cling to their one-goal lead.

BC held a disparate advantage in shots (18-4) and corner kicks (5-1) and seemed to keep the ball in the Lightning's half of the field for the majority of the game. However, only five of the Deacons 18 shots were on goal as BC failed to take advantage of several breakaway opportunities and were flagged for 20 off-sides penalties.

After taking just one shot in the first half to BC's 10, the Lightning struck early in the second half with a goal by Rodezno. He was assisted on the play by freshman Matt Bik and sophomore Rob Cann.

That goal came on one of just three second-half shots, but it proved to be the game-winner as BC could not convert any of its eight second half shots.

Seniors Mike Bather, Chris Steele, David Nimroozi, Angel Rodriguez and Justin Enloe-Hamill walked off Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field for the last time victorious as the Lightning hung on to win the game, 1-0.

GBC is back in action on Wed. at 3 p.m., as the Lightning go on the road to take on CACC foe Caldwell College.
