PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team fell 3-1 on Tues. against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Holy Family, as the host Lightning could not overcome a pair of goals by Jason Lopez.
The Lightning fell to 4-10 (2-6 CACC) as the Tigers improved to 9-5-1 (5-3-1 CACC) and clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament.
Junior Andrew Cairns played the full 90 minutes in goal, making eight saves while allowing three goals. HFU's Mark Ferretti earned the win with five saves and one goal allowed.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first ten minutes. Seydou Ba opened the scoring when he headed in a pass from Jeffrey Wimsey. Lopez then added a goal for HFU off an assist from Ba to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Senior Angel Rodriguez gave the Lightning a lift as he scored on a direct kick from about 25 yards out to bring GBC within one right before the intermission. The goal was his team-leading 10th of the season.
But the Lightning could not carry that momentum into the second half, as Lopez added a goal after a near 20-minute scoring lull to start the second half, and put the Tigers ahead 3-1.
That score would stand as GBC went on to drop its sixth straight game.
