Souto finishes 2nd in conference tennis singles tournament

Box score

Plymouth Meeting, PA – Freshman Luisiana Souto finishes second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Singles finals.

Souto came into the tournament out of the regular season with a 10-1 singles record.  Souto's only loss of the season came in her first ever collegiate match to Philadelphia University's Maddie Smith whom Souto would meet again in the finals of the tournament.

The #2 seed, Souto's first opponent of the tournament was also from Philadelphia University, Adriana Rodriguez.  Souto defeated her 10-6.  Souto's next opponent was Lianna Lui from Holy Family University who had just defeated Souto's teammate Stephanie Bain.  Souto easily beat Lui with the scores of 6-1; 6-4.  Souto's semifinal round had her facing someone she had defeated in the past, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's Amanda Bedway. Souto beat Bedway in the regular season 6-2; 6-1.  But that didn't shake either player.  Souto once again defeated Bedway, 6-3; 6-4.

Souto's trip to the finals would mark the first in Goldey-Beacom College history.  Souto first faced her finals opponent in late August with Smith (PU) defeating Souto 6-2; 6-1.  Souto was unfortunately defeated again by Smith, who was ranked #1, with scores of 6-1; 6-3.  Souto would finish the tournament in 2nd place but still marking the first and highest finish of a Goldey-Beacom College tennis player.
