Richard Bowers, who brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge and a passion for both the game and coaching, is back to coach Goldey-Beacom in 2021.

Bowers re-inherited a team that went 4-25 in 2007. He began to turn the tide in 2008, guiding GBC to more than double its win total the previous season at nine. Goldey-Beacom defeated Chestnut Hill College (twice), Felician and Dominican (NY) that season. 

The Lightning in 2009 and 2010 continued to show improvement despite winning nine and eight matches, respectively. Bowers took on competitive non-conference schedules that included PSAC powers Indiana (PA) and Millersville, and GBC continued to prove it could compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Bowers from 2001-04 amassed a 65-56 overall record and was 48-20 in the CACC. During his four years at GBC, he led the team to four consecutive CACC Tournaments and two NAIA Northeast Regional Tournaments. Bowers in 2004 was picked the CACC Coach of the Year.

Bowers coached Rising Sun High School to two straight regional championships prior to coming back to GBC and twice was named coach of the year. Other coaching stops have included North East High School, Bohemia Manor High School, Cecil Community College and various local volleyball clubs.

Bowers resides in Elkton, MD with his wife.
