Goldey-Beacom has announced Steve Sanchez will take over as the new track & field coach.
Sanchez arrives after serving in 2025-26 as the Associate Head Coach and Director of Operations for the University of Delaware Cross Country and Track & Field. He oversaw the throws and multis groups, playing a key role in program administration, budgeting, recruiting, meet management and championship planning. In addition to directing recruiting efforts for the throws program, he serves as meet director for major home competitions, including one of the largest high school track & field meets in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Sanchez also served as Assistant Track & Field Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Abilene Christian University in 2024-25, coaching throws and multi-event athletes while assisting with recruiting operations, event management and alumni engagement initiatives. Prior, he spent nearly four years at the University of South Carolina Upstate as Assistant Track & Field Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, helping elevate the program through successful recruiting efforts, athlete development and championship performances.
His coaching journey also includes stops at East Tennessee State University, SUNY Plattsburgh and King University, developing expertise in athlete performance, strength and conditioning, recruiting coordination and program operations.
Sanchez has coached two NCAA All-Americas, including 2023 NCAA second team All-America Channing Ferguson in the high jump and 2018 NCAA second team All-American Ben Johnson in the weight throw. His athletes have earned numerous NCAA preliminary round appearances, conference championships, all-conference honors, school records and national records, including a Haitian national record in the hammer throw.
His student-athletes have broken multiple championships in the Southern Conference, Big South Conference, Atlantic Sun Conference, United Athletic Conference, Conference USA and the Coastal Athletic Association (formerly the Colonial Athletic Association).
Sanchez served as a featured presenter at coaching clinics and national conventions, presenting "0 to 60 Meters in Two Years Flat in the Hammer Throw" in 2024. He also presented on high jump development at the Upstate Coaches Clinic and serves as a USATF Level 1 Instructor, teaching and annually mentoring more than 100 coaches.
Sanchez earned his M.S. in Sport Management from East Tennessee State University and a B.S. in Sport Management from Limestone College.
