Samantha Markland

Samantha Markland is in her first year as Goldey-Beacom's Assistant Athletic Trainer.

She enters after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer at Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, overseeing athletic healthcare services for multiple sports programs and collaborates closely with physicians, physical therapists, coaches, parents and school personnel to ensure comprehensive athlete care.

Markland earned her M.S. in Athletic Training and Bachelor of Science in Sports Health, with a minor in Health and Wellness, from the University of Delaware. She holds Board of Certification (BOC) credentials, Delaware Athletic Trainer licensure, American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid certification and is a Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). She also is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).

In her role at Appoquinimink High School, Markland implemented innovative injury prevention and performance programs, including dynamic mobility warm-up protocols and sport-specific recovery initiatives. She utilized advanced athlete-monitoring technologies, such as Riddell InSite and Catapult systems, to support concussion management and workload tracking. Additionally, she served as a preceptor for athletic training students from the University of Delaware and mentors students enrolled in the school's healthcare pathway.

Beyond her full-time responsibilities, Markland works as a per diem Certified Athletic Trainer, providing medical coverage for high-profile athletic events, including regional basketball and lacrosse tournaments and elite volleyball camps. She also supports jockey health and safety at Delaware Park Racetrack through concussion baseline testing, physical examinations and medical record management.

Markland gained professional sports experience as an Athletic Training Intern through the National Football League with the Houston Texans, assisting with player care, rehabilitation programs and the implementation of advanced therapeutic modalities. Her experience spans injury prevention, rehabilitation, emergency preparedness and return-to-play management for athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.

Her commitment to leadership and service has earned her notable recognition, including the PFATS Foundation Female Scholarship and the ChristianaCare Impact Award, which honors students who demonstrate exceptional service and leadership in advancing community health and well-being.
