Bill Streets

William F. “Bill” Streets, Jr. is in his 11th season as head coach of Goldey-Beacom’s softball team.

Streets joined former head coach Jerry Grasso’s staff as an assistant coach in September 2010. After serving as interim head coach for nearly the entire 2011 season following Grasso's departure on March 18, Streets was named head coach in June 2011.

During his stint as interim head coach, he guided the Lightning to a 14-20 record that included the program's first wins since 2006 over perennial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference powerhouses Philadelphia University and Caldwell College.  With just two seniors on the roster, GBC showed great promise by playing competitively throughout the season, even while losing. Under Streets, seven of the team's losses came by just one run.  The Lightning also won five games decided by one run in his reign.  They finished with an overall record of 17-21.

The 2017 unit made many turn heads, closing fifth to clinch a spot in the CACC Tournament.  Among the big wins included a pair against Wilmington (DE) with one coming to open the conference tournament.  The Lightning also pulled a stunner with a 10-2 rout against 20th-ranked Caldwell that included seven runs in the first inning.

Streets, who was an avid ASA competitive fast pitch softball player from 1968-87 and 1995-97, also boasts a decorated coaching career at the youth and college level.  He coached various ASA Midway Girls’ Softball teams (10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under), collected six Delaware State Championships (1989, 1990, 1999 with the 10-and-under, 1991, 1992 with the 12-and-under and 1993 with the 14-and-under) and three league championships from 1988-1990 with the 10-and-under squad. His 1990 10-and-under team also competed in the National Tournament in Broken Arrow, OK.

He also had a coaching stint at Wilmington (DE) University from 1993-97 and then coached Newark High School from 1998-2009.

Streets matriculated through the Newark public school system from 1953-1963. He received his G.E.D. through the U.S. Military in 1964.  Since then, he has earned 36 credit hours towards an Associates Degree in Fire Technology at Delaware Technical Community College and attended several schools, seminars and conferences all over New Castle County.

He served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-66 and then worked a variety of jobs before becoming a First Dispatcher in 1975. Through a series of promotions, Streets has worked his way up to Assistant Chief of Emergency Communications in 2005 and still maintains that title.  He also has served as a volunteer fireman in Newark since 1969.

Streets resides in Newark with his wife Deborah, a registered nurse.  They have three daughters: Rebecca (manager of the Newark Courtyard Marriott, University of Delaware campus), Laura and Stefanie.
