Michael Tobiason

  • Title
    Assistant Golf Coach
Michael Tobiason is in his third year as an assistant coach for Goldey-Beacom's golf team.

Tobiason made a name for himself as one of the pre-eminent student-athletes in the College's history.  That was rewarded during the 2015-16 academic year, when he was named one of six people inducted as part of the first class into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Hall of Fame.

The College also took notice in the inaugural class of its Athletics Hall of Fame, which saw Tobiason as one of the three inductees.

Tobiason, the youngest of the honorees, had a memorable run from 2002-06 that included a slew of individual accomplishments.  He was tabbed PING All-American in 2005 and 2006, picked a Collegiate Golf All-American in 2006, was a four-time CACC individual champion and a four-time conference Player of the Year.

Among Tobiason’s school-record 23 victories included the 2006 NCAA Regional championship, which helped GBC to the team regional crown for the College’s first win in an NCAA Tournament event in any sport.  He also paced the Lightning to three straight CACC titles (2003-05) and his sixth-place showing at the 2005 NCAA Regional helped the squad end third.

Outside of GBC, Tobiason professionally has played over 200 events with 13 victories, 51 top-five finishes and 75 top-10 showings.  Most notably, he qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open after finishing third in both the local and sectional qualifying tournaments.

The Wilmington, DE native and St. Elizabeth High School alum also participated in 2013 on the Golf Channel’s “Big Break” TV show at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

The 2002 Delaware Junior Amateur champion also played four seasons for the GBC basketball team.  He averaged 6.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest as a sophomore, and 4.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game the following year.

Tobiason has donated his time in being a celebrity professional at many events where he would hit shots for many groups and increase awareness to the cause of that specific organization.  Tobiason has helped in this way for Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation in Wilmington (childhood cancer), Autism Delaware and the Boys & Girls Club.
