Mike Shepherd

  • Title
    Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Joining the Lightning for his second season, Shepherd was previously the Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at McKean HS.  As the head coach of McKean HS, Shepherd led them to one of their most successful seasons in school history.  The Temple University (1996) graduate is also a teacher at McKean HS.

He is most notably known for his role in serving the community as the Head Coach of the PAL of Delaware boy’s basketball AAU team.  Over his tenure as Head Coach and Director of Operations of the PAL of Delaware, Shepherd has helped place over 40 of his former players at the Division I and II level.  “Mike Shepherd has established himself as someone who volunteers so much of his time to give back to the community.  Having been part of one of the most respected AAU programs in the region, Mike’s teams were comprised primarily of Delaware student-athletes.  Serving as a mentor to many of his former players, he always stressed the importance of education.  Using basketball as a motivator, Coach Shepherd has helped a lot of young men achieve success in the classroom they might not have known they were capable of” Hammond said.

Shepherd will serve as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Lightning while also focusing as a Nutrition Coach.

Shepherd owns his Master’s of Education from the University of Delaware (2003) and lives in Wilmington with his wife Leilani.
