As one of the top coaches in the East Region, Goldey-Beacom head men's basketball coach Chuck Hammond has led the Lightning to unprecedented success as he begins his 14th season.

The all-time leader in wins and winning percentage at Goldey-Beacom, Hammond has paced the Lightning to 164 victories along with an ECAC championship in 2007, six straight appearances in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament from 2007-12 and three berths in the CACC final (2010-12).  In addition, he has guided the Lightning to a pair of CACC South Division championships.

A two-time CACC Coach of the Year, Hammond has coached a CACC Rookie of the Year along with numerous all-region, all-conference and all-academic players in helping the Lightning to three CACC Sportsmanship Awards.

During Hammond's tenure as the Lightning's coach, there have been six 1,000-point scorers and three players who have tallied 500 or more rebounds.  Several of Hammond's former players have gone on to play professionally after graduation.

In 2009-10 and 2010-11, the Lightning posted the only 20-win seasons in school history and reached the CACC final.  In addition, GBC in 2011 claimed the CACC South Division title for the first time in school history.

GBC also reached the CACC final in 2012 and earned its second consecutive South Division crown, earning Hammond the league's Coach of the Year award.

In 2010-11, the Lightning won their final 11 home games at the Joseph West Jones Center.  This included a 69-68 upset victory over No. 20 Bowie State, which advanced to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region semifinals. The Lightning won their first home game of the 2011-12 season before the streak ended.

During the 2009-10 season, the Lightning posted the first 20-win season in school history and finished 20-9.  That included an 11-6 mark in the CACC and a trip to the conference final for the first time in school history.  Under Hammond's tutelage, the Lightning paced the CACC with a .732 free throw percentage, a 390 three-point field goal percentage and allowing just 31.6 rebounds per game.

With five newcomers to the roster, Hammond guided the Lightning to a berth in the CACC semifinals in 2008-09.  The Lightning used a five-game win streak to end the regular season with a second-place showing in the CACC South Division and secure their third straight appearance in the conference tournament.

The 2006-07 season was a year filled with milestones for Hammond and the Lightning. The team reached the CACC Tournament for the first time since 1999 and hosted a league tournament game for the first time in school history.  With a 15-12 overall record and an 11-9 mark in the CACC, the Lightning earned their first top 10 ranking in the NCAA Northeast Region.

The Lightning earned a spot in the ECAC final after getting a pair of wins over two NCAA Tournament teams and captured the title, 86-70 over Molloy.

With four returning starters, the 2005-06 squad led the CACC in scoring defense by allowing just 65.7 points per game. They also paced the conference by giving up 30.8 rebounds per game and their +3.8 rebound-per-game margin was second in the CACC. The Lightning finished with a winning record for the first time in school history with a 15-12 mark and the victories were the most since 1999-2000, when they had 17.

As a result, Hammond was named as the CACC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.

Among the Lightning's other accomplishments during Hammond's tenure are three CACC Sportsmanship Awards during the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons.

Hammond is serving his second three-year team as a member of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Basketball Committee and was the director for the 2012-13 NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament.

An active contributor in the community, Hammond was honored in the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" in 2006-07 and has helped the Lightning flourish in the classroom.

Prior to joining the staff at Goldey-Beacom, Hammond served as an assistant coach for legendary coach Herb Magee at Philadelphia University and was the team's recruiting coordinator.

A member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Blackwood, NJ native earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Philadelphia University in 1999 and a Master's degree from Temple University in 2002.  During his time at Temple, Hammond specialized in sports psychology and focused on anxiety and the recruiting process.
