2009-2010 Men's Golf Outlook

The 2008-09 Goldey-Beacom College golf team finished last year ranked #4 in the Northeast Region, and earned a berth into the NCAA Super Regional, where they finished 15th.

“Graduating Seniors Rob Hunt and All Conference selection Justin Grossman will be missed very much,” states Coach Asbell.  “Both Rob and Justin were leaders on the course and off the course.”

The 2010 Goldey-Beacom College Golf Team adds three very talented freshmen to the roster which will help continue the success of the program.

Devon Ripley from Dover, Delaware (Caesar Rodney HS), Justin Armstrong from Woodstock, New York (Sullivan West HS, and Michael Coppa from Hampstead, Maryland (North Carroll HS) complete this year’s recruiting class.

“Devon Ripley is a very talented player who is tournament proven and can just flat out play,” states Coach Asbell.  He will be counted on, as a freshman, to come in and play right away.

“Justin Armstrong is a very good athlete who played basketball and golf in high school.  He has a great work ethic and is a solid player who will be counted on to fill a vacancy in the top five”, commented Asbell.

“A long-hitting lefty, Michael Coppa will bring a lot to the team,” stated Asbell.  “Michael has worked all summer on his game, as he will via for a spot in the top five.”

Returning from last year’s team are Senior Matt Quigley, Juniors Wes Hood, Erik Tammsalu, and John Marsteller.

Coach Asbell named Junior Wes Hood as the captain for this year’s team.  “Wes has demonstrated what it takes to be a leader both on the course and off.  He has a very solid work ethic, which I hope the younger players will follow.  With his heart and determination, Wes Hood will be a great leader,” commented Coach Asbell.

Erik Tammsalu is coming off his best year as a GBC golfer.  Erik played very consistent golf last year and is expected to pick up right where he left off.

Senior Matt Quigley is the heart and soul of the GBC golf team.  Matt has worked extremely hard on his golf game this summer, which should pay off when the time comes.

Junior John Marsteller rounds out this year’s team.  John will have a good shot to make the top five in some tournaments this season, as his game has improved in all areas.
