Cross Country Battles Rain and the Competition at the Purple and Gold Open

A Nor'easter that wiped out many Saturday athletics events did not stop the Purple and Golden Open, which Goldey-Beacom partook at in Coatesville, PA.

Senior John Ferry (Rising Sun, MD) again was the Lightning's star, ending the eight-kilometer men's jaunt fifth in 28:08.5. It was the second top-eight finish of the year for the two-time All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honoree.

Freshman Brad Sears (Ashland, VA) was 36th in 33:28.4, junior Aquillino Rozanski (Olympia, WA) closed 39th in 33:46.9, freshman Cody Wiseman (Middletown, DE) ended 42nd in 35:02.4 and sophomore Anthony Papiro (Bear, DE) was 50th in 37:04.5.

Goldey-Beacom was fourth with 99 points.

The women got another great performance from freshman Amelia Jones (Dudley, England), who closed the six-kilometer race sixth in 25:38.8. It was her second top-six finish of the year.

Freshman Destiny Ceballos (Piscataway, NJ) finished 20th in 32:56.2, junior Aiyana Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) ended 22nd in 33:47.6 and sophomore Ana Thaler (Ljubljana, Slovenia) was 24th in 34:18.6.

Goldey-Beacom next Friday will be at the prestigious Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, PA.
