Men’s Basketball Rolls Lucky Seven in 104-96 Triumph Over Dominican

Goldey-Beacom saw four players score in double figures and made it seven straight victories with a 104-96 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Dominican (NY) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning in the opening half once again lit up the scoreboard, grabbing a 50-40 lead by shooting 57 percent (20-of-35) from the field and canning nine 3-pointers.  Junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) was the catalyst in that span, scoring 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with four 3-pointers.  Senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) and sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) added 11 points apiece.
 
The Chargers did their best to get back in the contest, going on a 21-7 run over four minutes in closing to 85-80 with 6:22 remaining.  Key'Sean Maynard scored six points with Elijah Peters and Tyler Edore adding four apiece.
 
It was a 93-87 contest in the last 2 1/2 minutes before Goldey-Beacom finally put away things.  Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) canned two free throws with 2:17 left and, on the next possession, Allen came up with a steal and a breakaway layup with 1:55 to go for a 97-87 margin.
 
Williams poured in a career-best 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with seven rebounds and four 3-pointers for the Lightning, who have won 10 of their last 12 contests.  Powell scored 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go with eight assists and Allen kicked in 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting in helping their side shoot 53 percent (37-of-70) from the floor with 12 three-pointers.
 
Peters and Koi D. Kirk Jr. scored 20 points for Dominican (8-12, 5-7 CACC), which shot 52 percent (30-of-58) from the field with 13 three-pointers.
 
Goldey-Beacom (15-6, 9-4) afterward got the news Post (8-5) was upset by Holy Family, giving the former sole possession of second place in the league.
 
Goldey-Beacom is back home next Tuesday against Wilmington for an 8:00 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools is at 6:00 pm.
