Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls, 76-68, at Post in the CACC Quarterfinals

Goldey-Beacom played Post right to the end in its CACC Tournament quarterfinal, but was dealt a 76-68 loss in Waterbury, CT.

A tenacious first half saw Goldey-Beacom use a 14-7 run for a 28-22 lead with 4:44 left.  Sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA), earlier today named second team All-CACC, netted six points in that span with freshman Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) adding four.

The teams went into the locker room deadlocked at 33 after junior Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) netted 12 points for the Lightning and freshman Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) added seven.

Goldey-Beacom did not let an early second-half deficit deter it, going on a 15-5 run in just over four minutes for a 59-58 lead with 6:07 to go.  Powell again continued his incredible play with eight points and junior Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD) added four.

The Eagles then had an answer of their own, pouring in the next 10 points for a 68-59 cushion with 2:37 to play thanks to a 3-pointer each from Deng Deang and Bol Akot.

GBC then got two free throws apiece from McQueen with 2:24 to go and Powell with 77 seconds left for a 68-63 game.  The Lightning looked for stop on the other end and appeared to get it, but  a tough foul call sent Akot to the line and he canned two with 51 seconds remaining for a 70-63 margin.

It was a 74-66 contest when McQueen was fouled on a 3-pointer with 16 seconds to go.  He made two free throws for a six-point margin, but Taquan Williams hit twice from the line for Post one second later to make it a 76-68 spread.

McQueen and Powell scored 17 points apiece with Marsh netting 13 for the Lightning.

Deang poured in 25 points with Akot adding 11 for the Eagles (17-12).

Goldey-Beacom (11-18) had yet another productive campaign in which it played in the CACC Tournament for a seventh time in its last eight competitive seasons.  The team also has notched double-digit league wins in six of those campaigns.
