Goldey-Beacom's men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the Golden Ram Invitational and senior Kosiani Dunkley (Kingston, Jamaica) was the individual winner in the men's five-kilometer race.
The men's race came down to a five tenths of a second differential between first and second place, but Dunkley pulled off the finish with a time of 16:06.23.Â
Sophomore John Ferry (Rising Sun, Md.) also finished in the top five for the men, placing fifth with a time of 16:32.81. This marks the first time that the men's cross country team has had multiple winners since 2013 as Ferry won the season-opening Philadelphia Cross Classic.
Freshman Cesar Martinez (Eagle Pass, TX) placed 16th with a time of 17:23.63, senior Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE) was 19th with 17:47.68, sophomore Felipe Henao (Bogota, Colombia) finished 23rd with 18:28.53Â and freshman Aquillino Rozanski (Olympia, WA) placed 29th with 19:36.08. Freshman Manny Carreno (New Castle, DE) finished 35th in 21:26.43.
The women's five-kilometer race for the Lightning was led by senior Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE), who placed eighth with a time of 21:23.03. Senior Izzy Popoff (Cicero, N.Y.) was right behind Smith in ninth with a time of 21:24.34. Freshman Liv Drewling (Düsseldorf, Germany) closed 10th with a time of 21:38.56.
Senior Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) placed 13th with a time of 22:06.02, junior Haley Schofield (Wilmington, DE) finished in 14th with 22:14.38, freshman Aiyanna Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) placed 28th with 26:32.67Â and junior Kaylah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished in 29th with a time of 27:12.07.
The men finished with a team score of 58 and the women finished with a team score 54.
The host team, West Chester, finished first for both men and women, as well as having the individual winner, Taylor Atkinson, for the women.Â
Goldey-Beacom competes next at the CACC Championship on Sunday in Philadelphia, PA. The men race at 9am with the women at 10am.
