Men's and Women's Track & Field Compete at Delaware Invitational

Goldey-Beacom made the short trip to Newark to compete in difficult conditions at the Delaware Invitational, wrapping up preparation for the conference championships with strong performances all around.
 
In the men's fielding events, the long jump saw sophomore Manny Carranza (Milford, DE) take first place with 6.35m and freshman Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) secured second with a jump of 5.49m. Freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) placed second in the javelin throw with a best throw of 29.73m.
 
On the track, junior Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE) ran 23.94 in the 200m, .02 seconds behind first place, and third in the 100m with a time of 11.78. Freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) led all Lightning runners in the 400m, claiming second place with a time of 53.09. Sophomore Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) followed in third place with a time of 54.55, and junior Tymir Ash-Shaheed (Middletown, DE) ran a time of 56.14 to place fifth.
 
In the 1500m, junior Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) placed third with a time of 4:19.26 and freshman Colin Kay (Lewes, DE) ran 4:24.23 to place fifth. Junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) secured second place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:49.03.
 
On the women's side, junior Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE) placed fifth with 25.12m and senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) followed in sixth with 24.81m. Junior Damia White (Bridgeton, NJ) threw 17.22m to place eighth, while freshman Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) came ninth with 16.29m.
 
In the track events, sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) placed sixth in the 100m with a time of 13.87 and senior Asia Hollis (Rising Sun, MD) ran 13.92 to place seventh. Hollis in the 100m hurdles placed fourth with a time of 20.52.
 
Sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:06.83 for a new school record.
 
Due to the conditions, a number of events did not compete. This is the final meet before both the men's and women's teams compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
 
Goldey-Beacom heads to Lakewood, NJ on Saturday and Sunday for the conference championships. The events begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am on Sunday.
