Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Damani Thomas Propels Men’s Basketball to 84-78 Victory at Georgian Court

Senior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) once again put on a scoring display at Georgian Court and Goldey-Beacom pulled away in the second half for an 84-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory in Lakewood, NJ.

After a 42-minute delay to replace a broken rim from warmups, the first half seemed pedestrian by comparison.  Thomas did bring some excitement by exploding for 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting, with all of his shots coming from three-point range.  Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) added nine points and four rebounds as the Lightning opened a 41-37 halftime lead.

Thomas continued his tear into the second half, scoring nine points during Goldey-Beacom's 19-9 run that gave his side a 67-50 lead with 8:53 to go.  Senior Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) added five points for the Lightning, who once again showed great defense by forcing seven turnovers in that time.

The Lions would not go away, pouring in the next 10 points and closing to 67-60 with 7:05 left.  Justin Harper scored six points and Cameron Edmonds added four.

But the Lightning's defense took over from there, even though the stats would not indicate.  Goldey-Beacom (7-5, 2-0 CACC) did not allow Georgian Court to get any offense going and left the outcome in no doubt, improving to 10-0 in Lakewood and 18-1 in the series.

Thomas again was outstanding, netting a season-high 27 points and matching his career best of seven 3-pointers.  His personal highs of 29 points and seven 3-pointers took place February 8, 2023 in Lakewood.

Sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) had 13 points and six rebounds, Centeno notched 13 and six with Collins added 13 points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds.  Senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) recorded seven points and nine assists with freshman Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) recording six points.

Justin Harper notched 16 points and eight rebounds, Donavin Crawford scored 15 points, Edmonds poured in 11 and Clint Wright Jr. added 10 for the Lions (1-9, 0-2).

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday against Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 8:00 pm, which followed the women's 6:00 pm contest.
