Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Cruises to 90-66 Win Over Holy Family

Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) poured in a season-best 22 points, pacing four players in double figures and helping Goldey-Beacom roll to a 90-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

A fairly even first half over the first 16 minutes became fairly uneven over the last four with Goldey-Beacom scoring the final 11 points, gaining a 41-23 cushion at the intermission.  Centeno was just getting warm with five points in that span, reigning CACC Rookie of the Week Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) canned a 3-pointer and sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) also had three points.

Holy Family in the second half closed to 58-47 with 11:32 remaining, but GBC made sure of victory with a 26-9 spurt over the next 6 1/2 minutes for an 84-56 lead with 4:55 to go.  Senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) scored all nine of his points during that time on a trio of 3-pointers with sophomore Caleb Bates (Detroit, MI) adding six points.

Derry now stands at 996 career points, continuing his quest toward becoming the 12th in program history to reach quadruple figures.

Centeno shot 9-of-13 from the floor to go with four steals and three rebounds, helping the Lightning shoot 51 percent (33-of-65) from the floor that included 61 percent (19-of-31) in the second half.

Bates poured in 18 points, Marsh netted 13 with McQueen adding 10 for GBC (4-3, 1-0 CACC), which won its CACC opener for a sixth consecutive season.

Tazir Cantey poured in 14 points with Aamir Hurst adding nine for the Tigers (2-5, 0-1), who could not overcome 20 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday hosts Lincoln (PA) in a 6:00 pm contest.
