Women’s Basketball Handed 69-58 Defeat at Shippensburg

Goldey-Beacom made its first foray on the road in 2023-24 and left with a tough 69-58 loss at Shippensburg in Shippensburg, PA.

The Lightning showed great tenacity late in the first half, scoring seven consecutive points to open a 25-24 lead with 2:09 left.  Freshman Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA), named Monday the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, opened it with a 3-pointer and sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) closed it with two free throws.

But the Raiders took control in the fourth quarter, using a 14-2 spurt over five minutes to open a 61-46 cushion with 4:17 remaining.  Alexis Buie and Abbie Miller scored five points apiece.

Yoder ended with 18 points, Ciszkowski poured in 13, junior Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) scored 12, going 12-for-14 from the line, sophomore Gaia Zimbardo (Parma, Italy) recorded nine rebounds and junior Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) added seven for the Lightning (0-5).

Treasure George scored 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, Miller had 18 and 10 rebounds with Bella Chimienti adding 13 points for the Raiders (1-4), who shot 46 percent (26-of-57) from the floor.
