Women’s Basketball Chosen to Finish Third in the CACC South Division

11/2/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's women's basketball team has been picked to end third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.

Sophomore guard Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) exploded onto the collegiate scene last season and seeks to maintain that stance.  A gifted shooter who others have to game plan around, she ended last season first in the CACC with .474 three-point percentage, second with 65 three-pointers (tied for third best in team history), 13th with .441 field goal percentage and 23rd with 94 field goals.

Forward Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) for three seasons has been an important post presence and looks to continue that in her senior campaign.  A vital competitor in all facets, Stevens finished last season third in the CACC with 42 blocks, 31st with 28 steals and 48th with 38 assists.

Sophomore guard Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) hopes to benefit from a great deal of graduation turnover after playing in 25 games a season ago with 10 starts.  Junior guard Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) and junior forward Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) should see more playing time in hopes of getting the Lightning back among the East's best.

Academic success for the program continued last season with four being named College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District and six making the CACC Academic Honor Roll.

The 2022-23 year saw former standout guard Sarah Round (Northampton, England) picked as the school's nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.  This marked the third time in six years the honoree was from women's basketball, including Amanda McGrogan in 2020 and Tanner Turner-Rush in 2018.

Goldey-Beacom begins its season November 10 at home against the District of Columbia, beginning at 4:00 pm.
