Women’s Basketball Handed 79-52 Loss at Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom looked to remain above .500 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, but instead was dealt a 79-52 loss at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.
 
Chestnut Hill in the opening quarter raced to a 20-11 lead thanks to shooting 42 percent (8-of-19) from the field and owning a 13-4 rebounding edge.  Morgan Sterner and Siobhan Boylan netted six points apiece for the Griffins.
 
The home side led 38-26 at the break, maintaining its muscle in the paint with a 29-9 advantage on the boards.  Sterner scored 11 points with Leah Miller, Kaitlyn Carter and Emily Chmiel getting four rebounds apiece.
 
The Griffins put away things in the third, outscoring the Lightning 27-19 to open a 65-45 lead.  Sterner continued her impressive play with seven points, helping the team shoot 53 percent (10-of-19) from the floor.
 
Junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) closed with 11 points and three blocks, sophomore Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) poured in nine points with senior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) adding eight for the Lightning (5-9, 2-2 CACC).
 
Sterner netted a career-best 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting with Carter adding nine rebounds for the Griffins (7-6, 2-2).
 
Goldey-Beacom hits the road Saturday to face Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
