Softball Ends Regular Season with A Pair of Wins over Nyack

Goldey-Beacom completed the two-game sweep, notching a 4-3 win in game one and 5-4 game two victory in nine innings over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic collegiate conference doubleheader on Saturday in Jackson Complex.

Nyack took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a double to left field by Janelle Adams scored Jessa Johnson.

Goldey-Beacom chipped into the lead in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly by freshman Morgan McLane (Clayton, Del.) scored senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD.), 2-1.

The Warriors added a run in the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly to left field by Adams, scored Arielys Rodriguez, 3-1.  The Lightning tied the game in the sixth inning after a sacrifice fly out to left field by junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, N.J.) scored sophomore Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.), 3-2.

Goldey-Beacom followed it with a reach to first on a fielding error by the shortstop scored sophomore Jazlee Rojas (Smyrna, Del.), 3-3.

The Lightning had the Warriors number, however, Makin hit a single down the right-field line to score senior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) to lift Goldey-Beacom to a 4-3 victory.

Jordan and Makin each had two hits.

McLane threw six innings (10-6), striking out three for the Lightning.

In game two, each team recorded two runs in the first inning to keep the game close.

The Warriors added two runs in the fourth inning capped by a sacrifice fly out to right field by Izzy Morales, scored Izzy Murillo, 4-2.

A thrilling, nine innings stretch ensued as Makin tied the ball game in the seventh inning on a ground out to the shortstop, scoring Henriquez, 4-4.

Goldey-Beacom secured the win after a fielding error by the second baseman off Jordan's bat scored junior Carly Setting (Middletown, Del.), for the final 5-4 victory.

Jordan notched a pair of RBIs.

Sophomore Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA.) pitched six innings (8-6), striking out two for the Lightning (24-21, 10-14 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom had a tremendous resurgence this season under first-year coach Juli Greep, recording their highest victory total since getting 27 wins in 2005 and notching their most league victories since getting 14 in 2017.  The roster featured 10 newcomers, of which many saw extensive playing time during the campaign.
