Women’s Basketball Ends Season With 90-68 Senior Day Win Over Wilmington U.



Goldey-Beacom dominated in a 90-68 season finale win over Wilmington University on Saturday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest in the Jones Center. 

The Lightning retained a 16-point lead at the half over the Wildcats, getting the job done on the offensive end, shooting a combined 56 percent (9-of-16) from the field while going 50 percent (3-of-6) from 3-point range. The Lightning snatched six steals and converted 15 points off Wildcat turnover for a 45-29 lead. 

Juniors Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, N.J.) and Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.) each scored 13 points to lead the Lightning. Gardner went 60 percent (6-of-10) from the field while Speaks shot 44 percent (4-of-9) from the field, adding five rebounds.  

The Lightning led by as many as 21 points with 1:28 remaining in the third quarter after a made jumper by freshman Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, Conn.), 66-45. Goldey-Beacom held Wilmington below 40 percent from the field in the final two quarters, overpowering Wilmington for the final 90-68 victory 

Junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) added 11 points on 50 percent (4-of-8) from the field while teammate junior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA.) added 10 points for the Lightning who scored a team 47 percent (36-of-76) from the field (8-18, 3-15 CACC). 

Sabreen Muslin recorded a double-double and led all scorers with 17 points on 45 percent (7-of-13) from the field to go along with 10 rebounds. Emily Ansah also recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points and snatching a game high 16 rebounds. Jade Roberts added 12 points and dished out eight assists for Wilmington who shot a combined 38 percent (23-of-60) from the field (1-22, 1-17 CACC).  

Senior Vera Lauhaluoma (Espoo, Finland) was honored today in her final game for the Lightning.  

Goldey-Beacom concluded their 2021-2022 season with a final record of (8-18, 3-15 CACC). The team looks forward to all but one returner next year as they continue to build the program.
