Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt 86-69 Loss at Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom succumbed to an early second-half run and was handed an 86-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Bloomfield in Bloomfield, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom raced to a 21-16 lead over the game's first 9 1/2 minutes, but surrendered a 25-12 run the remainder of the half for a 41-33 deficit.  The Lightning shot 60 percent (15-of-25) from the floor in that span and forced nine turnovers, but the Bears canned five 3-pointers and owned a 17-11 rebounding edge.

Sophomores Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) and Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) netted 10 points apiece for the Lightning with Josh Morris scoring 17 on 7-of-10 shooting with three 3-pointers for the Bears.

The teams played nearly even early in the second half before Bloomfield exploded with 14 straight points for a 62-41 lead with 10:19 remaining.  Andres Fulgnecio went on a tear with eight points and helped his team hold Goldey-Beacom without a field goal for more than six minutes.

The Bears in the second half shot 55 percent (18-of-33) from the field, canned six 3-pointers and held the Lightning to just 33 percent shooting (13-of-40).

Derry again played great with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two 3-pointers.  He raised his own single-season school record to 80 three-pointers and remains 10th with 116 career triples.

Collins had 16 points, nine rebounds to tie his personal best and seven assists that are one off his career high.  Junior Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) amassed nine points and five rebounds with sophomore Zack Oree (Newark, NJ) netting eight points.

Morris ended with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, Fulgencio netted 23, Deavion Ellis had 15 and 10 rebounds with Isaiah Sparks adding 11 points for the Bears (9-14, 7-6 CACC).

Unfortunately, the bad news continued from North Jersey as Chestnut Hill (9-5) rallied from 21 points down for a 70-64 win at Caldwell.  The Lightning (11-11, 7-6) now trail the Griffins by 1 1/2 games for second place in the CACC South Division and a home quarterfinal game in the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against University of the Sciences as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 8:00 pm, following the women's 6:00 pm contest.
