Men’s Basketball Battles to the End in 82-65 Loss at Franklin Pierce

Goldey-Beacom played solidly against regionally ranked Franklin Pierce and withstood almost every challenge before it was handed an 82-65 loss in Rindge, NH to conclude its two-game New England trip.

Franklin Pierce in the opening half ended things with a 23-15 run over the final 11 minutes to gain a 48-36 lead.  Antonio Chandler scored 10 points in that spurt as part of his 13 points in the half, helping the Ravens shoot 54 percent (19-of-35) from the floor with five 3-pointers.

The Ravens did not let up in the second half, going on a 16-2 spurt over five minutes to open a 64-40 lead with 14:13 remaining.  Brandon Kolek scored eight points in that time with a pair of 3-pointers.

The Lightning showed plenty of grit throughout and were not going away, using a 20-9 run over 7 1/2 minutes in moving to 73-60 with 6:04 left.  Freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) scored 10 points in that span.

Kolek put a temporary halt to the excitement on a layup with 5:20 to play that made it 75-60.  After Marsh's free throw on the next possession, Mohamed Traore canned a 3-pointer with 4:24 remaining for a 78-61 contest.

Marsh continues to be on fire, showing his dominant presence seemingly every game.  He closed with 25 points on 10-of-21 shooting and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Marsh is averaging 20.1 points over his last seven contests and now is second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with 18.2 points per game.

Junior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) added 14 points with seven rebounds for the Lightning (4-8), who opened the trip Saturday with a tough 68-62 setback at Southern New Hampshire.

Sean Trumper had 18 points and nine rebounds, Traore scored 17, Chandler netted 16 and Kolek added 15 for the Ravens (7-3), who shot 50 percent (32-of-64) from the field with nine 3-pointers.

Franklin Pierce is ranked seventh according to the latest D2SIDA East Region Poll.

Goldey-Beacom is off until December 31, when it hosts Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
