Softball Drops Two at Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom brought its late-season charge into North Jersey, but could not handle Bloomfield with a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses by scores of 9-1 and 5-4 in Little Ferry, NJ.

Bloomfield (8-15-1, 8-12 CACC) in game one opened the scoring with three runs in the last of the third inning.  Halle Woodhall lined an RBI double to left, Delanie Cruz had a run-scoring single up the middle and Taylor Galyean added an RBI single to right.

Freshman Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) got a single up the middle in the top of the fifth to score senior Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE), getting the Lightning within 4-1.  But the Bears plated three in the last of the frame for a 7-1 lead, keyed by Jamell Quiles' two-run double in which a third run scored on an error.

Woodhall rapped three hits with Cruz, Quiles and Mya Lopez recording two apiece for Bloomfield.   Galyean struck out three over five innings, surrendering one run and three hits.

The Lightning (5-16, 5-16) in game two got their bats going in the first inning with four runs.  Freshman Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) lined an RBI single, senior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) followed with a run-scoring double, freshman Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) stroked an RBI single and junior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) followed with a sacrifice fly.

Bloomfield came back with four runs over the first three innings for a 4-4 tie, aided by Lopez getting the tying RBI single in the third.  The Bears in the sixth took their first lead of the game when Lopez singled, stole second and scored on Woodhall's fielder's choice.

Lopez and Danielle Walters had two hits apiece for the Bears.  Walters (5-3) tossed the final 6 2/3 innings, striking out four and yielding just two hits.

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Saturday at Dominican (NY) for a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
