Men’s Basketball Finishes Strong in 73-71 Victory Over Saint Rose

Goldey-Beacom came through in a hard-fought battle that went down to the last minute and resulted in a 73-71 victory over Saint Rose at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Saint Rose, which led by as many as seven points late in the first half, took its final lead with 2:01 left when Shane O'Dell's layup made it 66-65.  The Lightning then executed a perfectly run play on their next possession with junior Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) making a great pass to freshman Kevon Ferguson (Brooklyn, NY), whose layup with 90 seconds to go made it 67-66.

Adam Anderson missed a 3-pointer for the Golden Knights and the Lightning (5-6) then look for some breathing room.  They got it when sophomore Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) nailed a massive jumper with 45 seconds remaining for a 69-66 contest.

O'Dell's layup with 25 seconds to go cut the margin to 69-68 and now it was time to foul.  Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, it was senior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) who was hacked.  Despite Saint Rose using its final timeout with 16 seconds left, Jones canned both attempts for a 71-68 game.

O'Dell missing a potential tying 3-pointer and Jones got the rebound before nailing two more from the line with 5.4 seconds remaining for a 73-68 contest.

Ligonde had another monster game with a career-best 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and sixth career.  A reigning member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, Ligonde has scored in double figures five times this season and is averaging 17.5 points over his last four contests.

Sophomore Zack Oree (Newark, NJ) poured in a career-best 13 points to go with three 3-pointers, Jones had nine points, nine rebounds and five assists with sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) adding nine points.  GBC shot 49 percent (26-of-53) from the field and notched a 29-24 rebounding edge.

O'Dell netted 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, Eric Fleming scored 14, Anderson poured in 11 and Josh McGettigan added 10 for Saint Rose (5-5), which shot 53 percent (25-of-47) from the floor but went 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Goldey-Beacom does not return to action until December 30, when it visits American International.  Game time in Springfield, MA is at noon.
